Description

A hearty and comforting American dish featuring tender boiled potatoes and smoky sliced smoked sausage, all coated in a creamy, tangy ranch-flavored cheese sauce, then baked to perfection with a golden, bubbly cheddar topping. This spicy cheesy ranch potato and smoked sausage bake is perfect for a satisfying main course.

Ingredients

Potatoes and Sausage

  • 500 g potatoes, diced
  • 250 g smoked sausage, sliced

Sauce and Seasoning

  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 packet ranch seasoning mix (approximately 1 oz or 28 g)
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven: Preheat your oven to 190°C (375°F) to prepare for baking the casserole.
  2. Boil potatoes: Place the diced potatoes in boiling water and cook for 5–7 minutes until they are slightly tender but not fully cooked. Drain the potatoes thoroughly to avoid excess moisture.
  3. Mix sauce: In a large bowl, combine the sour cream, milk, and ranch seasoning mix. Stir well until the mixture is smooth and evenly blended.
  4. Combine ingredients: Add the boiled potatoes and sliced smoked sausage into the sour cream mixture. Toss gently to coat all pieces evenly with the ranch sauce.
  5. Assemble dish: Transfer the coated potato and sausage mixture into a baking dish, spreading it out evenly to ensure consistent cooking.
  6. Add cheese topping: Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the top of the mixture to create a cheesy crust.
  7. Bake: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 25–30 minutes until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and golden brown, and the entire dish is heated through.

Notes

  • Add onions or bell peppers for extra flavor and texture.
  • Use turkey sausage as a lighter alternative to smoked sausage.
  • Ensure ranch seasoning mix is gluten-free if dietary restrictions apply.
  • For extra spice, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or chili flakes to the sauce mixture.
