Description
These slow cooker baby back ribs are tender, juicy, and coated in a flavorful barbecue sauce. Slow cooking ensures the ribs become incredibly tender with minimal effort, while a quick broil at the end creates a delicious caramelized finish, perfect for an easy and satisfying meal.
Ingredients
Ribs and Seasoning
- 2–3 lbs baby back ribs
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Other Ingredients
- 1 cup barbecue sauce
- 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
Instructions
- Prepare the Ribs: Remove the membrane from the back of the ribs if it is still attached. This will help the seasoning penetrate better and improve the texture.
- Make the Seasoning Rub: In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, chili powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix thoroughly.
- Season the Ribs: Rub the seasoning mixture evenly over both sides of the ribs to ensure maximum flavor.
- Arrange in Slow Cooker: Place the ribs in the slow cooker, cutting them into sections if necessary to fit them comfortably without overcrowding.
- Add Vinegar: Pour the apple cider vinegar around the ribs to add a slight tang and help tenderize the meat.
- Cook the Ribs: Cover and cook on LOW for 6–7 hours or on HIGH for 3–4 hours, until the ribs are very tender and almost falling off the bone.
- Broil for Caramelization: Carefully transfer the ribs to a foil-lined baking sheet. Brush generously with barbecue sauce. Broil for 2–4 minutes, watching closely, until the sauce caramelizes and develops a nice crust.
- Rest and Serve: Let the ribs rest for a few minutes to allow juices to redistribute. Slice and serve with extra barbecue sauce on the side.
Notes
- Removing the membrane allows the seasoning to penetrate the ribs more effectively and improves tenderness.
- Do not overcrowd the slow cooker; arrange ribs in a single or slightly overlapping layer for even cooking.
- For an extra smoky flavor, add a small amount of liquid smoke to the barbecue sauce before broiling.
- Leftover ribs can be refrigerated for up to 4 days and reheated gently to maintain moisture.
