Description

This Quick and Easy Honey Chicken recipe features tender, juicy bite-sized chicken pieces coated in a flavorful sweet and savory honey garlic sauce. Ready in just 30 minutes, it’s ideal for a speedy family dinner and pairs wonderfully with steamed rice or vegetables.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1½ lbs (680 g) boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

Honey Sauce

  • ⅓ cup honey
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water (cornstarch slurry)

For Garnish

  • Sesame seeds
  • Sliced green onions

Instructions

  1. Toss the chicken: In a large bowl, combine the bite-sized chicken pieces with cornstarch, salt, and black pepper until evenly coated, which helps create a crispy exterior when cooked.
  2. Heat the oil: Place a large skillet over medium-high heat and add the vegetable oil, allowing it to heat thoroughly to prepare for cooking the chicken.
  3. Cook the chicken: Add the coated chicken pieces to the hot skillet and cook for 6–8 minutes, turning occasionally until all sides are golden brown and the chicken is cooked through.
  4. Prepare the honey sauce: While the chicken cooks, whisk together honey, soy sauce, minced garlic, ketchup, rice vinegar, and sesame oil in a bowl to create the flavorful sauce.
  5. Simmer the sauce: Pour the mixed honey sauce into the skillet with the cooked chicken and bring it to a gentle simmer over medium heat, allowing the flavors to meld.
  6. Thicken the sauce: Stir in the cornstarch slurry (cornstarch mixed with water) and continue to cook, stirring frequently, until the sauce thickens and coats the chicken evenly.
  7. Coat and finish: Toss the chicken in the thickened sauce so each piece is well coated and heated through.
  8. Garnish and serve: Remove from heat and garnish with sesame seeds and sliced green onions for added flavor and presentation before serving.

Notes

  • Serve with steamed rice, noodles, or broccoli for a complete meal.
