Description
Philly Cheesesteak is a classic American sandwich loaded with thinly sliced ribeye steak, sautéed onions and green bell peppers, and melted provolone cheese, all served in a toasted hoagie roll. This hearty and flavorful sandwich is perfect for a satisfying lunch or dinner.
Ingredients
Meat and Seasonings
- 1½ lbs ribeye steak, thinly sliced
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and black pepper to taste
Vegetables
- 1 green bell pepper, sliced
- 1 onion, sliced
Dairy and Bread
- 8 slices provolone cheese
- 4 hoagie rolls
- 2 tbsp butter
Oil
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
Instructions
- Prepare the steak: Freeze the ribeye steak for 20–30 minutes to firm it up, which makes it easier to slice thinly.
- Heat the cooking surface: Warm the vegetable oil on a Blackstone griddle or a large skillet over medium-high heat until shimmering.
- Sauté the vegetables: Add the sliced onions and green bell peppers to the griddle or skillet. Cook until softened and slightly caramelized. Push them to one side of the cooking surface.
- Cook the steak: Place the thinly sliced ribeye on the hot griddle or skillet. Season it with garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper. Cook for 3–4 minutes, breaking the meat apart with a spatula as it cooks to ensure even browning.
- Combine steak and vegetables: Mix the cooked onions and peppers back into the cooked steak, stirring to combine evenly.
- Add the cheese: Divide the steak and vegetable mixture into four equal portions on the griddle or skillet. Top each portion with two slices of provolone cheese, allowing it to melt thoroughly.
- Toast the rolls: Spread butter on the inside of each hoagie roll and toast them on the griddle or skillet until golden and crisp.
- Assemble the sandwiches: Once the cheese has melted, scoop each portion of the steak mixture into a toasted hoagie roll and serve immediately.
Notes
- Ribeye steak is recommended for its superior flavor and tenderness.
- Mushrooms can be added along with the onions and peppers for extra flavor.
