Description

Paneer Potli is a delectable Indian appetizer featuring crispy pastry pouches filled with a spiced paneer mixture. These charming golden parcels, tied and sealed with flour paste, are either deep-fried or baked to perfection, making them a perfect party snack or festive treat that combines rich flavors and satisfying textures.

Ingredients

Filling

  • 250 g paneer, crumbled
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 green chili, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, grated
  • 2 tablespoons cilantro, chopped
  • ½ teaspoon cumin powder
  • ½ teaspoon garam masala
  • Salt, to taste

Pastry

  • 10 spring roll wrappers or pastry sheets
  • 2 tablespoons flour mixed with water (for sealing)
  • Oil, for frying or brushing before baking

Instructions

  1. Prepare the filling: In a bowl, combine the crumbled paneer, finely chopped onion, green chili, grated ginger, chopped cilantro, cumin powder, garam masala, and salt. Mix well to create a flavorful and well-blended filling.
  2. Cut the pastry sheets: If not already in squares, cut the spring roll wrappers or pastry sheets into square shapes suitable for forming potlis.
  3. Assemble the potlis: Place a spoonful of the paneer filling in the center of each pastry square. Gently gather the edges upwards to form a pouch, and seal the edges securely using the flour-water paste to ensure the filling stays inside during cooking.
  4. Cook the potlis: For deep frying: Heat oil in a deep pan to medium heat and fry the potlis until they turn golden brown and crispy. For baking: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly brush the potlis with oil and bake on a tray for 20–25 minutes until golden and crisp.
  5. Serve: Remove the cooked potlis on paper towels (if fried) to drain excess oil. Serve them hot accompanied by fresh mint chutney or tamarind chutney for dipping.

Notes

  • Add peas or sweet corn to the filling for extra texture and flavor.
  • For a healthier alternative, air fry the potlis instead of deep frying.
