Ingredients
Fries
- 1 pound frozen French fries
- 1 teaspoon Cajun seasoning
Cheese Sauce
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 cup milk
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- ½ teaspoon Cajun seasoning
- Salt and black pepper to taste
Toppings
- 2 green onions, sliced
- Ranch dressing for drizzling (optional)
Instructions
- Cook the fries: Cook the frozen French fries according to the package directions until they are crispy and golden brown.
- Season the fries: While the fries are still hot, sprinkle 1 teaspoon of Cajun seasoning evenly over them to infuse a spicy flavor.
- Prepare the roux: In a medium saucepan, melt 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Once melted, whisk in 2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour and cook for 1 minute to remove the raw flour taste and create a smooth base.
- Make the cheese sauce: Gradually whisk in 1 cup of milk until the mixture is smooth and thickened. Stir in 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese and ½ teaspoon of Cajun seasoning, cooking until the cheese is fully melted. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
- Assemble the fries: Arrange the cooked seasoned fries on a serving platter.
- Add the cheese sauce: Pour the creamy Cajun cheese sauce generously over the fries.
- Garnish and serve: Top with sliced green onions and drizzle ranch dressing if desired. Serve immediately while the cheese sauce is warm.
Notes
- Add crispy bacon bits for extra flavor and texture.
- Adjust the amount of Cajun seasoning to your preferred spice level for more or less heat.
