Description

Jumbleberry Crumble is a luscious and easy-to-make dessert featuring a medley of fresh berries coated in a sweet, slightly tart filling and topped with a golden, buttery oat crumble. This warm and comforting fruit dessert is ideal for any occasion and pairs beautifully with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

Ingredients

For the berry filling:

  • 2 cups strawberries, sliced
  • 1 cup blueberries
  • 1 cup raspberries
  • 1 cup blackberries
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the crumble topping:

  • 1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
  • ¾ cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Preheat and prepare dish: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease an 8-inch baking dish to prevent sticking and ensure easy serving.
  2. Mix the berries: In a large bowl, combine the strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries.
  3. Add filling ingredients: To the berries, add the granulated sugar, cornstarch, lemon juice, and vanilla extract. Toss gently so all berries are evenly coated without crushing them.
  4. Transfer to dish: Pour the prepared berry mixture into the greased baking dish, spreading it evenly.
  5. Prepare crumble topping: In a separate bowl, mix together the rolled oats, all-purpose flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt.
  6. Add butter: Pour the melted unsalted butter into the dry ingredients and stir until the mixture becomes crumbly and holds together loosely.
  7. Top the berries: Evenly sprinkle the crumble topping over the berry mixture in the baking dish, covering the berries entirely.
  8. Bake: Place the dish in the oven and bake for 35–40 minutes or until the topping is golden brown and the berry filling is bubbling around the edges.
  9. Cool slightly and serve: Allow the crumble to cool for about 10 minutes before serving. Serve warm topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream for the ultimate treat.

Notes

  • Use fresh or frozen mixed berries; no need to thaw frozen berries beforehand.
  • Adjust sugar amounts based on your berries’ natural sweetness to suit your taste.
  • For extra texture and flavor, add chopped almonds or pecans to the crumble topping.
  • Store any leftovers covered in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
  • Reheat in the oven before serving to refresh and crisp up the crumble topping.
