Ingredients
Hot Dogs & Buns
- 6 beef or pork hot dogs
- 6 hot dog buns
Fries & Toppings
- 3 cups frozen French fries
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil, if needed
- 2 tablespoons yellow mustard
- 1/2 cup finely diced white onion
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
Optional Toppings
- Ketchup
- Relish
- Sauerkraut
- Shredded cheddar cheese
- Hot sauce
Instructions
- Prepare French Fries: Cook the frozen French fries according to the package instructions using either baking in the oven or air frying until they are golden and crispy. Use vegetable oil if needed for extra crispiness.
- Heat Grill or Skillet: While the fries cook, preheat a grill or a skillet over medium heat to prepare the hot dogs.
- Cook Hot Dogs: Place the hot dogs on the grill or skillet and cook for 5–8 minutes, turning occasionally to ensure they are heated through and lightly browned on all sides.
- Warm Buns: Warm the hot dog buns on the grill or in the oven for 1–2 minutes until soft and slightly toasted.
- Assemble Hot Dogs: Place each cooked hot dog inside a warmed bun.
- Add Fries and Toppings: Top each hot dog with a generous layer of crispy French fries. Drizzle with yellow mustard and sprinkle diced onions over the top.
- Optional Add-ons: Add any optional toppings you prefer such as ketchup, relish, sauerkraut, shredded cheddar cheese, or hot sauce. Serve immediately while fries are still crispy.
Notes
- Regional variations: Jersey-style hot dogs differ by town and vendor; some include fried potatoes, caramelized onions, or specialty sauces, so feel free to customize your toppings.
- Extra-crispy fries: For maximum crispiness, cook fries separately and add just before serving.
- Cooking options: Hot dogs can also be boiled or pan-fried based on your preference or package instructions.
- Make it spicy: Enhance heat by adding hot sauce or sliced jalapeños.
- Storage: Store leftover hot dogs and fries separately in airtight containers in the refrigerator up to 3–4 days. Assemble fresh before eating.
