Description
A sweet and savory chicken dish cooked in a flavorful apple cider sauce. This comforting recipe combines tender chicken with a rich glaze, perfect for cozy meals during the fall season.
Ingredients
Chicken and Seasoning
- 2 chicken thighs or breasts
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
Sauce and Cooking
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1/2 onion, sliced
- 1 cup apple cider (fresh preferred)
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 1 teaspoon honey
- 1/2 teaspoon thyme
Instructions
- Season Chicken: Season the chicken thighs or breasts evenly with salt and black pepper to enhance flavor.
- Sear Chicken: Heat olive oil in a pan over medium heat, then sear the chicken until golden brown on both sides. Remove the chicken from the pan and set aside.
- Sauté Onions: In the same pan, add the sliced onion and sauté until soft and translucent, about 3-5 minutes.
- Prepare Sauce: Add the apple cider, Dijon mustard, honey, and thyme to the pan with the onions. Stir well to combine all the ingredients into a flavorful sauce.
- Simmer Chicken: Return the seared chicken to the pan, ensuring it is covered by the sauce. Simmer gently for 15 to 20 minutes, allowing the chicken to cook through and the sauce to reduce slightly.
- Finish and Serve: Once the chicken is tender and the sauce has thickened to a glaze, serve the dish warm with the sauce spooned generously over the top.
Notes
- Use fresh apple cider for the best authentic flavor.
- Adding sliced apples to the sauce can provide additional natural sweetness.
- This dish pairs wonderfully with roasted vegetables or a side of mashed potatoes.
