Description
Iced Green Tea with Honey and Lemon is a refreshing and light homemade beverage made by steeping green tea bags in hot water, sweetening with honey, and brightening with fresh lemon juice. Perfect for warm days, this drink is naturally invigorating and ideal for picnics, BBQs, or a simple afternoon refreshment.
Ingredients
Main Ingredients
- 4 green tea bags
- 4 cups water
- 2 tablespoons honey, or to taste
- ¼ cup fresh lemon juice
- 1 cup cold water
- 1–2 cups ice
- Lemon slices, for serving
- Fresh mint leaves, optional
Instructions
- Heat Water: Bring 4 cups of water to a gentle simmer, making sure not to boil, to preserve the delicate flavors of the green tea.
- Steep Tea: Remove the water from the heat and add the green tea bags. Let them steep for 3–5 minutes, depending on how strong you like your tea, but avoid over-steeping to prevent bitterness.
- Sweaten Tea: Take out the tea bags and stir in the honey while the tea is still warm, allowing it to dissolve fully for a smooth sweetness.
- Cool Tea: Let the tea cool down to room temperature to prepare for mixing and chilling.
- Add Lemon and Water: Stir in the fresh lemon juice and 1 cup of cold water to enhance flavor and dilute to the desired strength.
- Prepare to Serve: Fill a large pitcher with ice and pour the cooled tea mixture over it along with lemon slices and optional fresh mint leaves for a garnish and added aroma.
- Chill and Serve: Refrigerate the tea for at least 30 minutes for the flavors to meld and the drink to become nicely chilled, or serve immediately over plenty of ice for quick refreshment.
Notes
- Avoid over-steeping green tea because it can become bitter.
- Adjust honey quantity according to your preferred sweetness level.
- For stronger citrus notes, add lemon zest while the tea cools and remove it before serving.
- Add fresh ginger or mint for extra flavor variations.
- To make it naturally sweeter, add extra honey or fresh fruit such as peaches or berries.
- Store the iced tea refrigerated for up to 3 days.
