Description

This homemade pizza dough recipe produces a soft, chewy, and easy-to-work-with base, perfect for creating your favorite pizza styles at home. Whether you’re aiming for a classic Margherita or a fully loaded veggie pizza, this dough gives you pizzeria-quality results with simple ingredients and straightforward steps.

Ingredients

Pizza Dough Ingredients

  • 3½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2¼ tsp active dry yeast
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1¼ cups warm water
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast: In a large bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Stir gently and let the mixture stand for 5 to 10 minutes, or until it becomes foamy, indicating the yeast is active.
  2. Mix dough ingredients: Add the olive oil, all-purpose flour, and salt to the yeast mixture. Stir until a shaggy dough forms, ensuring all the flour is incorporated.
  3. Knead the dough: Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for 8 to 10 minutes until the dough becomes smooth, elastic, and slightly tacky but not sticky.
  4. First rise: Place the kneaded dough into a lightly oiled bowl and cover it with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap. Allow it to rise in a warm place for 1 to 1½ hours, or until it doubles in size.
  5. Shape the dough: Punch down the risen dough to release any air bubbles. Divide it into portions according to your pizza size preference. Roll or stretch each portion into your desired pizza shape and thickness.
  6. Add toppings and bake: Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). Add your favorite sauce, cheese, and toppings on the shaped dough. Bake the pizzas on a pizza stone or baking sheet for 10 to 15 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and crisp.

Notes

  • Using bread flour instead of all-purpose flour will create a chewier crust texture.
  • For enhanced flavor, refrigerate the dough overnight before shaping and baking.
  • This recipe makes enough dough for two medium-sized pizzas or one large pizza.
