Ingredients
For the Kabobs
- 1 1/2 lbs (680 g) sirloin steak, cut into 1-inch cubes
- 1 red bell pepper, cut into chunks
- 1 green bell pepper, cut into chunks
- 1 small red onion, cut into wedges
- 1 cup cherry tomatoes
- 8 oz (225 g) mushrooms, halved
Marinade
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Prepare the Marinade: In a large bowl, whisk together the olive oil, soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, lemon juice, minced garlic, dried oregano, smoked paprika, black pepper, and salt until fully combined to create a flavorful marinade base.
- Marinate the Steak: Add the cubed sirloin steak to the marinade and toss until each piece is evenly coated. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, allowing the flavors to penetrate the meat. For deeper flavor, marinate up to 4 hours.
- Soak the Skewers: If using wooden skewers, submerge them in water for at least 30 minutes to prevent burning during grilling.
- Assemble the Kabobs: Thread the marinated steak cubes alternately with chunks of red and green bell peppers, red onion wedges, cherry tomatoes, and mushroom halves onto the skewers, taking care to distribute ingredients evenly and avoid overcrowding for uniform cooking.
- Preheat the Grill: Heat your grill to medium-high temperature and lightly oil the grates to prevent sticking.
- Grill the Kabobs: Place the assembled kabobs on the grill and cook for about 3 to 4 minutes per side. Rotate occasionally to achieve even cooking and a slight char on all sides. Grill until the steak reaches desired doneness and vegetables are tender-crisp.
- Rest and Serve: Remove kabobs from the grill and allow the steak to rest for 5 minutes to retain juices before serving. Serve warm alongside rice, grilled potatoes, a fresh salad, or warm pita bread.
Notes
- You can use sirloin, ribeye, or strip steak based on preference and availability.
- Cut all the ingredients into similarly sized pieces to ensure even cooking on the grill.
- Avoid overcrowding the skewers, which helps food cook evenly and prevents steaming instead of grilling.
- Serve the kabobs with sides like rice, grilled potatoes, salad, or warm pita to complete the meal.
- Always discard any leftover marinade that has been in contact with raw meat to avoid cross-contamination and foodborne illness.
