Description

Grilled Filet Mignon is an elegant steakhouse-quality meal featuring tender, juicy beef with a perfectly seasoned crust and a buttery finish. This simple recipe lets the rich flavor of the filet shine, making it ideal for special occasions or an impressive backyard dinner.

Ingredients

Steaks

  • 4 filet mignon steaks (68 ounces each, about 1½ inches thick)

Seasoning & Oil

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon fresh rosemary, chopped (optional)

Finishing

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • Fresh parsley, chopped, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Steaks: Remove the steaks from the refrigerator 30 minutes before grilling to bring them to room temperature, ensuring even cooking.
  2. Preheat the Grill: Heat your grill to high heat, around 450–500°F (230–260°C), to achieve a perfect sear and crust on the steaks.
  3. Season the Steaks: Pat the steaks dry with paper towels, brush both sides with olive oil, then evenly season with kosher salt, freshly ground black pepper, garlic powder, and chopped rosemary if using.
  4. Grill the Steaks: Place the steaks on the hot grill and cook for 4–5 minutes per side for medium-rare, adjusting time for your preferred level of doneness.
  5. Add Butter: During the last minute of grilling, top each steak with a small piece of unsalted butter to melt and enhance the flavor.
  6. Rest the Steaks: Remove the steaks from the grill and let them rest on a plate or cutting board for 5–10 minutes to allow the juices to redistribute.
  7. Garnish and Serve: Sprinkle freshly chopped parsley over the rested steaks for brightness and serve immediately while hot.

Notes

  • Use a meat thermometer for the best results: aim for 130–135°F (54–57°C) for medium-rare, 140–145°F (60–63°C) for medium doneness.
  • Avoid pressing down on the steaks while grilling to keep them juicy and tender.
  • Letting the steaks rest after grilling is crucial to maintain moisture and flavor.
  • Pair this grilled filet mignon with classic sides like grilled asparagus, mashed potatoes, or roasted vegetables for a complete meal.
