Description

Grilled Blackened Salmon Caesar Salad is a delicious and flavorful twist on the classic Caesar salad, featuring tender salmon fillets coated in a bold Cajun-inspired blackening spice blend and grilled to perfection. Served over crisp romaine lettuce tossed with creamy Caesar dressing, crunchy croutons, and freshly grated Parmesan cheese, this salad is perfect for a satisfying lunch or dinner. Ready in under 30 minutes, it offers a balance of smoky, spicy, and fresh flavors that’s both healthy and easy to prepare.

Ingredients

For the Blackened Salmon

  • 4 salmon fillets (about 6 ounces each), skin removed if desired
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper, adjust to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

For the Caesar Salad

  • 2 large heads romaine lettuce, chopped
  • 1 cup croutons
  • 1/2 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 cup Caesar dressing, store-bought or homemade
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • Freshly cracked black pepper, to taste
  • Lemon wedges, for serving

Instructions

  1. Prepare the seasoning: In a small bowl, combine smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, dried thyme, cayenne pepper, black pepper, salt, and dried oregano to create the blackening spice mix.
  2. Season the salmon: Pat the salmon fillets dry with paper towels. Brush both sides with olive oil and evenly sprinkle the seasoning mixture over each fillet. Drizzle with lemon juice for added brightness.
  3. Preheat the grill: Heat an outdoor grill or grill pan to medium-high heat. Lightly oil the grates to help prevent the salmon from sticking during cooking.
  4. Grill the salmon: Place the seasoned salmon on the hot grill and cook for approximately 4–6 minutes per side, depending on thickness. The salmon should develop a dark, flavorful crust and reach an internal temperature of 145°F (63°C). Remove from the grill and let rest for a few minutes to retain juices.
  5. Prepare the salad: Place chopped romaine lettuce in a large salad bowl. Toss with Caesar dressing and fresh lemon juice until all leaves are evenly coated with the dressing.
  6. Add the toppings: Sprinkle croutons and freshly grated Parmesan cheese over the dressed lettuce and toss gently to combine without bruising the leaves.
  7. Assemble the bowls: Divide the Caesar salad evenly among four plates or bowls. Top each serving with one grilled blackened salmon fillet.
  8. Serve: Finish each salad with freshly cracked black pepper and lemon wedges on the side. Serve immediately while the salmon is warm and the lettuce remains crisp.

Notes

  • Adjust the heat level by reducing or omitting cayenne pepper for milder flavor or increasing it for more spiciness.
  • Use fresh or fully thawed salmon fillets to ensure even grilling and optimal texture.
  • Avoid overcooking the salmon since it dries out quickly; use a food thermometer to check for doneness.
  • For a lighter version, substitute traditional Caesar dressing with a light or Greek yogurt-based dressing.
  • Add extra crunch and freshness by including sliced cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, or additional croutons if desired.
  • To make this gluten-free, use gluten-free croutons and verify that your Caesar dressing is gluten-free.
  • Prepare the seasoning, wash and chop lettuce, and grate Parmesan cheese ahead of time for quicker assembly.
  • Store leftovers separately in airtight containers; keep salad dressing and croutons apart until serving to maintain texture. Refrigerate for up to 3 days.
