Description

These Fish Tacos are a delightful blend of flaky, seasoned white fish served in warm tortillas, topped with a crisp cabbage slaw and a creamy, tangy sauce. Ideal for quick weeknight dinners, they combine fresh, vibrant flavors with simple preparation methods, making them both healthy and satisfying.

Ingredients

Fish

  • pounds cod, mahi mahi, or tilapia
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

Slaw

  • 2 cups shredded cabbage
  • ¼ cup chopped cilantro
  • Juice of 1 lime

Creamy Sauce

  • ½ cup sour cream or Greek yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice
  • 1 teaspoon hot sauce
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder

For Serving

  • 8 corn or flour tortillas
  • Avocado slices
  • Lime wedges

Instructions

  1. Preheat Grill or Oven: Begin by heating your grill or oven to 400°F (200°C) to prepare for cooking the fish.
  2. Prepare the Fish: Brush the fish fillets with olive oil and evenly season them with chili powder, smoked paprika, garlic powder, ground cumin, salt, and black pepper.
  3. Cook the Fish: For grilling, place the fish on the grill and cook for 4–5 minutes on each side until the fish flakes easily. If baking, place the fish in the oven and bake for 12–15 minutes until cooked through and flaky.
  4. Make the Slaw: In a bowl, toss the shredded cabbage with chopped cilantro and the juice of one lime to create a fresh, zesty slaw.
  5. Prepare the Creamy Sauce: Mix together sour cream or Greek yogurt, mayonnaise, lime juice, hot sauce, and garlic powder until smooth and creamy.
  6. Warm the Tortillas: Heat the corn or flour tortillas to make them pliable and warm for assembling the tacos.
  7. Assemble the Tacos: Flake the cooked fish into bite-sized pieces and distribute evenly among the warmed tortillas. Top each taco with cabbage slaw, creamy sauce, avocado slices, and a squeeze of fresh lime juice for added brightness.

Notes

  • Fresh cod or mahi mahi works especially well for best flavor and texture.
  • Add pico de gallo or mango salsa on top for an extra burst of flavor.
  • Serve immediately to enjoy the best texture and freshness of the tortillas and fish.
