Description

Soft, fluffy cinnamon rolls with a gooey brown sugar cinnamon filling and a creamy vanilla glaze, achieving bakery-style results made simple and perfect for breakfast or dessert.

Ingredients

Dough

  • 2 ¼ tsp yeast
  • ¾ cup warm milk
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • ¼ cup melted butter
  • 3 cups flour
  • ½ tsp salt

Filling

  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp cinnamon
  • ¼ cup butter, softened

Glaze

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Activate yeast: Combine the yeast, warm milk, and sugar in a bowl and let it rest for 5 minutes until it becomes frothy, indicating the yeast is active.
  2. Make dough: Mix in the egg, melted butter, flour, and salt into the yeast mixture. Knead the dough thoroughly for about 8 minutes until it is smooth and elastic.
  3. First rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and allow it to rise for 1 hour until it doubles in size.
  4. Prepare filling and shape rolls: Roll the dough on a floured surface into a rectangle. Spread the softened butter evenly on top, then sprinkle the brown sugar and cinnamon mixture over the butter. Roll the dough tightly from one side to the other and cut into 12 equal rolls.
  5. Second rise: Place the sliced rolls into a greased pan, cover, and let them rise again for 30 minutes until puffed.
  6. Bake: Preheat the oven to 350 °F (175 °C). Bake the rolls for 25 minutes or until golden brown.
  7. Glaze: While the rolls are warm, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract, then drizzle the glaze over the rolls.

Notes

  • Add cream cheese to the glaze for a richer flavor and creamier texture.
  • You can prepare the rolls overnight by completing the first rise and shaping, then refrigerate and bake fresh in the morning for warm rolls.
