Description

This dirt pudding recipe is a delightful, no-bake dessert featuring layers of creamy chocolate pudding, smooth cream cheese mixture, and crunchy crushed chocolate sandwich cookies. Easy to make and perfect for parties and family gatherings, it’s a fun and kid-friendly treat that captures the classic flavors of chocolate and Oreos with a playful gummy worm garnish option.

Ingredients

Pudding Layer

  • 1 package (3.9 oz / 110g) instant chocolate pudding mix
  • 2 cups (480ml) cold milk

Cream Cheese Mixture

  • 8 oz (225g) cream cheese, softened
  • ¼ cup (30g) powdered sugar

Other Ingredients

  • 8 oz (225g) whipped topping, thawed
  • 14 oz (400g) chocolate sandwich cookies, crushed
  • Gummy worms, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Make the pudding: Whisk together the instant chocolate pudding mix and cold milk in a bowl until the mixture thickens, usually about 2 minutes. Set aside.
  2. Prepare the cream cheese mixture: In a separate bowl, beat the softened cream cheese and powdered sugar together until the mixture becomes smooth and creamy with no lumps.
  3. Combine pudding and cream cheese: Carefully fold the prepared chocolate pudding into the cream cheese mixture until fully blended and uniform in texture.
  4. Fold in whipped topping: Gently fold the thawed whipped topping into the pudding and cream cheese mixture, making sure everything is evenly combined without deflating the whipped topping too much.
  5. Layer the dessert: Spread half of the crushed chocolate sandwich cookies evenly in the bottom of your serving dish to form the first layer.
  6. Add the pudding mixture: Spread the combined pudding mixture evenly over the cookie layer, smoothing the surface for an even layer.
  7. Top with remaining cookies: Sprinkle the remaining crushed chocolate sandwich cookies over the pudding layer, covering the surface evenly.
  8. Chill: Refrigerate the layered dessert for at least 2 hours to allow it to set and the flavors to meld together.
  9. Add garnishes and serve: Just before serving, garnish with gummy worms if using, for a fun and playful touch to the dirt pudding.

Notes

  • Serve the dirt pudding in individual cups or jars for easy party servings.
  • For best texture and flavor, chill the pudding overnight instead of just 2 hours.
  • Store leftovers covered tightly in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
