Description
A creamy and comforting Russian-inspired dish made with ground beef, mushrooms, and a rich sour cream sauce served over cooked pasta. This quick twist on classic beef stroganoff is perfect for an easy and satisfying dinner.
Ingredients
Main Ingredients
- 1 lb (450g) ground beef
- 1 tbsp butter
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 2 cups mushrooms, sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 cup sour cream
- 2 tbsp flour
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Cooked pasta (for serving)
Instructions
- Brown the Beef: Cook the ground beef in a large pan over medium heat until fully browned. Drain any excess fat and set the beef aside.
- Sauté Vegetables: In the same pan, melt the butter and add the chopped onion, minced garlic, and sliced mushrooms. Cook until the onions are translucent and mushrooms are softened.
- Add Flour: Sprinkle the flour over the sautéed vegetables and stir well. Cook for about 1 minute to remove the raw flour taste and help thicken the sauce later.
- Pour Beef Broth: Gradually add the beef broth to the pan, stirring constantly to prevent lumps. Continue cooking until the sauce thickens.
- Simmer with Beef: Return the browned ground beef to the pan and simmer the mixture for 5 to 10 minutes to develop flavor and ensure everything is heated through.
- Add Sour Cream: Stir in the sour cream gently and heat the sauce without bringing it to a boil to avoid curdling.
- Season and Serve: Season the dish with salt and pepper to taste. Serve the creamy beef and mushroom sauce over cooked pasta.
Notes
- For a lighter option, substitute sour cream with Greek yogurt.
- This dish can also be served over rice or mashed potatoes as alternatives to pasta.
