Description
A delicious fusion of pizza and grilled cheese featuring crispy buttery bread, gooey melted cheese, and classic pizza flavors. This easy-to-make sandwich is perfect for lunch or a quick dinner and can be customized with your favorite toppings for endless variations.
Ingredients
For the Sandwich:
- 8 slices sandwich bread
- 4 tablespoons butter, softened
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese
- ¼ cup pizza sauce
- 16 slices pepperoni (optional)
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
- Prepare the Bread: Spread butter evenly on one side of each slice of bread. This will help achieve a crispy, golden crust during cooking.
- Assemble the Sandwiches: Place 4 slices of bread butter-side down on your work surface. Spread a thin layer of pizza sauce onto each slice, then top with shredded mozzarella, cheddar cheese, optional pepperoni slices, and sprinkle Italian seasoning over the fillings. Finally, sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese over everything.
- Close the Sandwich: Place the remaining 4 slices of bread on top of the fillings, butter-side facing outward to ensure the outside crisps nicely while grilling.
- Heat the Skillet: Preheat a skillet over medium heat. This temperature allows the cheese to melt slowly and the bread to toast without burning.
- Cook the Sandwiches: Place the sandwiches in the skillet and cook for 3–4 minutes on each side or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese has fully melted, pressing down occasionally with a spatula for even grilling.
- Serve: Remove from the skillet, slice each sandwich in half or quarters if desired, and serve warm with extra pizza sauce for dipping.
Notes
- Supreme Variation: Add sautéed peppers, onions, and mushrooms for a veggie-packed flavor.
- Meat Lovers Variation: Include cooked sausage and bacon bits along with pepperoni.
- Margherita Variation: Use fresh mozzarella, fresh basil leaves, and tomato slices instead of shredded cheese and pepperoni.
- Hawaiian Variation: Add diced ham and pineapple chunks for a sweet and savory twist.
- Veggie Variation: Incorporate spinach, olives, and mixed bell pepper slices for a fresh, vegetarian option.
- To prevent sogginess, avoid overloading the sandwich with sauce and toppings.
- Butter the bread evenly for consistent browning.
