Ingredients
Beef Mixture
- 1 lb (450g) ground beef
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 cups mushrooms, sliced
- 1 tbsp butter
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional: thyme or parsley
Cream Sauce and Topping
- 1 cup cream or milk
- 1 cup shredded cheese
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F) to prepare for baking the casserole.
- Cook Beef, Onion, and Garlic: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef together with chopped onion and minced garlic until the meat is fully browned and the onions are softened, about 5-7 minutes.
- Add Mushrooms: Stir in the sliced mushrooms and cook until they are softened and have released their moisture, approximately 5 minutes.
- Add Cream and Seasoning: Pour in the cream (or milk) and season the mixture with salt, pepper, and optionally thyme or parsley. Stir well to combine and heat through.
- Transfer to Baking Dish: Pour the beef and mushroom mixture into a prepared baking dish, spreading it evenly.
- Top with Cheese: Sprinkle the shredded cheese evenly over the top of the casserole.
- Bake the Casserole: Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 20–25 minutes, or until the sauce is bubbly and the cheese is melted and golden brown on top.
- Serve Warm: Remove from the oven and let it rest for a few minutes before serving warm. Enjoy with rice or bread.
