Description

A rustic and hearty beef and mushroom country casserole featuring ground beef, sautéed mushrooms, and a creamy sauce topped with melted cheese. This comforting baked dish is perfect for a cozy family meal.

Ingredients

Beef Mixture

  • 1 lb (450g) ground beef
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: thyme or parsley

Cream Sauce and Topping

  • 1 cup cream or milk
  • 1 cup shredded cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F) to prepare for baking the casserole.
  2. Cook Beef, Onion, and Garlic: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef together with chopped onion and minced garlic until the meat is fully browned and the onions are softened, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Add Mushrooms: Stir in the sliced mushrooms and cook until they are softened and have released their moisture, approximately 5 minutes.
  4. Add Cream and Seasoning: Pour in the cream (or milk) and season the mixture with salt, pepper, and optionally thyme or parsley. Stir well to combine and heat through.
  5. Transfer to Baking Dish: Pour the beef and mushroom mixture into a prepared baking dish, spreading it evenly.
  6. Top with Cheese: Sprinkle the shredded cheese evenly over the top of the casserole.
  7. Bake the Casserole: Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 20–25 minutes, or until the sauce is bubbly and the cheese is melted and golden brown on top.
  8. Serve Warm: Remove from the oven and let it rest for a few minutes before serving warm. Enjoy with rice or bread.

Notes

  • Serve with rice or bread for a complete meal.
