Ingredients
Main Ingredients
- 2 lbs beef chuck roast
- 1 cup barbecue sauce
- 1/2 cup beef broth
- 1 small onion, sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
To Serve
- 6 hamburger or brioche buns
- Coleslaw or pickles, for serving
Instructions
- Prepare the slow cooker: Place the beef chuck roast into the slow cooker base.
- Add aromatics: Layer the sliced onion and minced garlic on top of the beef in the slow cooker.
- Mix the sauce: In a bowl, combine barbecue sauce, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, smoked paprika, chili powder, salt, and black pepper until well blended.
- Pour sauce over beef: Evenly pour the prepared sauce mixture over the beef and aromatics in the slow cooker.
- Cook the beef: Cover the slow cooker and cook on LOW for 7–8 hours or on HIGH for 4–5 hours, until the beef is tender and shreds easily with a fork.
- Shred the beef: Remove the cooked beef from the slow cooker and shred it thoroughly using two forks.
- Combine shredded beef with sauce: Return the shredded beef to the slow cooker and stir to coat the meat evenly with the cooking juices and sauce.
- Serve: Toast the buns lightly to prevent sogginess, then pile the BBQ beef onto the buns and top with coleslaw or pickles as desired.
