Ingredients
Dry Ingredients
- 2 cups flour
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- ½ tsp salt
Wet Ingredients
- ½ cup butter, softened
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup milk
Fruit
- 1 ½ cups chopped apples (preferably tart apples like Granny Smith)
Cinnamon Sugar Swirl
- ⅓ cup brown sugar
- 1 tsp cinnamon
Glaze
- ½ cup powdered sugar
- 1 tbsp milk
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Set your oven to 350 °F (175 °C) and prepare a loaf pan by greasing it lightly or lining with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
- Cream Butter and Sugar: In a large mixing bowl, beat ½ cup softened butter with 1 cup sugar until the mixture is light and fluffy. This creates a smooth base for your bread.
- Add Eggs and Milk: Beat in the 2 eggs one at a time, ensuring each is fully incorporated before adding the next. Then, stir in 1 cup milk to combine all wet ingredients thoroughly.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together 2 cups flour, 1 tbsp baking powder, and ½ tsp salt. Gradually add this dry mixture into the wet ingredients, stirring gently until just combined to avoid over-mixing.
- Fold in Apples: Carefully fold 1 ½ cups chopped apples into the batter, distributing them evenly without breaking them down.
- Create Cinnamon Sugar Swirl: Combine ⅓ cup brown sugar with 1 tsp cinnamon in a small bowl. Pour half of the batter into the prepared loaf pan, sprinkle half of the cinnamon sugar over it, then add the remaining batter and top with the remaining cinnamon sugar. Use a knife or skewer to swirl the mixture lightly for a marbled effect.
- Bake the Bread: Place the loaf pan in the preheated oven and bake for 50–55 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Baking times may vary slightly depending on your oven.
- Cool and Glaze: Remove the loaf from the oven and let it cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack. Once cool, prepare the glaze by mixing ½ cup powdered sugar with 1 tbsp milk until smooth and drizzle it over the loaf for a sweet finishing touch.
Notes
- For the glaze, adjust milk quantity slightly to achieve your preferred consistency—thicker for drizzling, thinner for pouring.
- Using tart apples such as Granny Smith provides a nice balance of sweetness and acidity.
- Ensure not to over-mix the batter to keep the bread light and fluffy.
- Allow the bread to cool completely before glazing to prevent the glaze from melting and running off.
