Ingredients
Main Ingredients
- 6 cups rice square cereal (Chex-style)
- 12 oz white chocolate chips or candy melts
- ¼ cup creamy peanut butter
- 1½ cups powdered sugar
Mix-Ins
- ½ cup red and green M&M’s
- ½ cup mini pretzels
- ¼ cup holiday sprinkles (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare Cereal: Place 6 cups of rice square cereal (Chex-style) into a large mixing bowl, making sure the bowl is big enough to toss the cereal with the melted chocolate mixture.
- Melt Chocolate and Peanut Butter: In a microwave-safe bowl, combine 12 oz of white chocolate chips or candy melts with ¼ cup of creamy peanut butter. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring well after each interval until the mixture is fully melted and smooth.
- Coat Cereal: Pour the melted white chocolate and peanut butter mixture over the cereal. Gently toss to coat the cereal pieces evenly without breaking them.
- Coat with Powdered Sugar: Transfer the coated cereal into a large zip-top bag. Add 1½ cups of powdered sugar, seal the bag tightly, and shake vigorously until each cereal piece is well coated with the powdered sugar.
- Cool and Set: Spread the coated cereal mixture onto parchment paper in an even layer. Allow it to cool completely and set, which will help it harden and prevent clumping.
- Add Mix-Ins: Once fully set and cooled, gently mix in ½ cup red and green M&M’s, ½ cup mini pretzels, and ¼ cup holiday sprinkles if using, distributing them evenly throughout the mixture.
- Serve or Store: Serve immediately or store the reindeer chow in an airtight container for up to one week to maintain freshness and crunch.
Notes
- Use candy melts instead of white chocolate chips for easier melting and smoother coating.
- For those with peanut allergies, substitute peanut butter with sunflower seed butter.
- Store the finished reindeer chow in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week to keep it fresh.
- This recipe is perfect for packaging into holiday treat bags for gifts or party favors.
