Ingredients
Beef Mixture
- 1 lb ground beef
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
- 1 teaspoon fish sauce
- 1 teaspoon brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon chili flakes
- 1 cup fresh Thai basil leaves
Wraps
- 8 large lettuce leaves or rice paper wrappers
Instructions
- Prepare the skillet: Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat to ensure it is hot enough to release the flavors of the garlic and beef.
- Sauté garlic: Add the minced garlic to the skillet and cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant, being careful not to burn it, to infuse the oil with garlic flavor.
- Cook beef: Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned, breaking it apart continuously to ensure even cooking and prevent large clumps.
- Add sauces and seasoning: Stir in soy sauce, oyster sauce, fish sauce, brown sugar, and chili flakes, mixing thoroughly so the beef is well coated and the flavors meld together.
- Simmer beef mixture: Cook for an additional 2–3 minutes, allowing the sauces to thicken slightly and coat the beef evenly, developing a rich flavor.
- Incorporate basil: Stir in fresh Thai basil leaves and cook for another minute until wilted, releasing their aromatic essence.
- Assemble wraps: Spoon the beef mixture into large lettuce leaves or softened rice paper wrappers, rolling or folding them neatly.
- Serve immediately: Present the rolls fresh for best texture and taste, optionally accompanied by a dipping sauce.
Notes
- For added crunch and texture, include shredded carrots or cucumber in the wraps.
- Adjust the amount of chili flakes to suit your preferred spice level.
- Serve with sweet chili sauce or your favorite dipping sauce for extra flavor.
