Description
Pillowy soft dinner rolls with a rich buttery flavor and beautifully golden tops, perfect for holiday feasts or everyday meals. These rolls are tender inside with a light, fluffy texture thanks to the yeast fermentation and gentle baking at 350°F.
Ingredients
Dry Ingredients
- 3½ cups all-purpose flour
- 2¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 1½ teaspoons salt
Wet Ingredients
- 1 cup warm milk (around 110°F / 43°C)
- ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
Instructions
- Activate Yeast: In a small bowl, combine the warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Stir to dissolve and let it rest for 5 minutes until it becomes frothy, indicating the yeast is active.
- Mix Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, add the melted butter, beaten egg, salt, and the activated yeast mixture. Gradually add the flour while mixing to form a dough.
- Knead Dough: Knead the dough by hand or with a stand mixer fitted with a dough hook for about 8 minutes until smooth and elastic, which develops the gluten for soft texture.
- First Rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm spot for about 1 hour or until it has doubled in size.
- Shape Rolls: Punch down the risen dough to release excess air and shape it into 12 equal-sized balls. Arrange the dough balls evenly spaced in a greased baking pan.
- Second Rise: Cover the pan and let the shaped rolls rise again for 30 minutes until they puff up noticeably.
- Bake Rolls: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for 20 to 25 minutes, or until they turn golden brown on top and sound hollow when tapped.
Notes
- For a shiny, flavorful finish, brush the rolls with melted butter immediately after baking.
- These rolls freeze well; wrap cooled rolls tightly and freeze for up to 3 months. Thaw and warm before serving.
