Ingredients
Meat
- 2 cups smoked brisket, shredded
Pasta
- 9 lasagna noodles
Sauces & Cheese
- 2 cups marinara sauce
- 1 1/2 cups ricotta cheese
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Other
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to ensure it’s at the right temperature for baking your lasagna evenly.
- Cook Noodles: Cook the lasagna noodles according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain the noodles and set aside to cool slightly.
- Prepare Ricotta Mixture: In a mixing bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, egg, and Italian seasoning. Mix well until smooth and well incorporated.
- Layer Sauce: Spread a thin layer of marinara sauce evenly on the bottom of a baking dish. This helps prevent sticking and adds flavor to the base layer.
- Assemble Lasagna Layers: Start layering by adding a layer of lasagna noodles over the sauce. Next, spread a portion of the ricotta mixture over the noodles, then top with shredded smoked brisket and a sprinkle of mozzarella cheese. Finish the layer with some marinara sauce. Repeat these layers until all ingredients are used up, usually 2-3 layers.
- Add Top Cheese Layer: On the final layer, add noodles topped generously with mozzarella and grated Parmesan cheese for a rich, golden crust.
- Cover and Bake: Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil to keep moisture in and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.
- Uncover and Continue Baking: Remove the foil carefully and continue baking for an additional 10 to 15 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and has turned a beautiful golden brown.
- Rest Before Serving: Remove the lasagna from the oven and let it rest for about 10 minutes. This allows it to set and makes slicing easier and cleaner.
Notes
- Leftover smoked brisket works perfectly for this recipe, making it a great way to repurpose extra meat.
- Use freshly grated Parmesan for the best flavor and melting quality.
- For easier slicing, let the lasagna rest fully before cutting.
- You can prepare the lasagna a day ahead; cover and refrigerate before baking.
