Ingredients
Liquid Ingredients
- 4 cups water
- 4 cups milk (dairy or non-dairy such as almond, oat, or soy)
- 1/4 cup honey or maple syrup (adjust to taste)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Tea and Spices
- 4 black tea bags
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 1 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cardamom
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
Instructions
- Heat Water: Add 4 cups of water to the slow cooker and set it on HIGH for about 30 minutes until the water is hot.
- Add Tea and Spices: Place the 4 black tea bags, 2 cinnamon sticks, ground ginger, ground cardamom, ground cloves, and ground nutmeg into the hot water. Cover the slow cooker and steep the mixture on LOW for 30 minutes to extract the flavors. Then, remove the tea bags.
- Add Milk and Sweetener: Stir in 4 cups of milk and 1/4 cup of honey or maple syrup. Be careful not to boil the milk; keep the slow cooker on LOW.
- Simmer: Cover and continue heating on LOW for 1 to 2 hours, stirring occasionally to blend the flavors and prevent a skin from forming on the milk.
- Add Vanilla: Just before serving, stir in 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract for extra warmth and aroma.
- Serve: Ladle the chai latte into mugs and enjoy warm.
Notes
- Do not boil the milk; keep the slow cooker on LOW after adding it to prevent curdling.
- Adjust the spices according to your taste preferences for a stronger or milder chai.
- Leftover chai latte can be refrigerated and gently reheated without boiling.
