Description
A comforting Turkish-inspired chicken dish featuring tender pieces of chicken cooked in a smooth and creamy white sauce, enriched with garlic and subtle spices, perfect for a hearty meal.
Ingredients
Chicken
- 500 g boneless chicken thighs
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
Sauce
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon flour
- 1 cup milk or cream
- 1 teaspoon paprika
Garnish
- Fresh parsley, chopped
Instructions
- Cook Chicken: Heat olive oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the chicken thighs and cook until browned on both sides and fully cooked through, about 8-10 minutes. Season with salt and pepper. Remove chicken from the pan and set aside.
- Sauté Garlic: In the same pan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 1-2 minutes, making sure not to burn it.
- Make Roux: Stir in the flour and cook for about 1 minute to create a roux that will thicken the sauce. Stir continuously to prevent lumps.
- Add Milk or Cream: Gradually pour in the milk or cream while continuously stirring to form a smooth sauce. Cook over medium heat until the sauce thickens, approximately 5-7 minutes.
- Season Sauce: Add paprika, and adjust salt and pepper to taste. Stir well to incorporate the spices.
- Simmer Chicken in Sauce: Return the cooked chicken to the pan with the sauce. Reduce heat to low and simmer gently for 5-7 minutes, allowing the chicken to absorb the flavors and the sauce to thicken further.
- Garnish and Serve: Sprinkle chopped fresh parsley over the dish and serve warm, ideally accompanied with rice or flatbread.
Notes
- For a lighter version, substitute cream with yogurt, adding it off the heat to avoid curdling.
- This dish pairs wonderfully with rice or traditional flatbread like lavash or pita.
- Avoid boiling the sauce vigorously to prevent the dairy from curdling; gentle simmering is key.
