Description

A rich and buttery homemade salted caramel sauce that’s perfectly balanced with sea salt. Ideal for drizzling over desserts like ice cream, cakes, or pancakes, this sauce is easy to make and adds a luxurious touch to any sweet treat.

Ingredients

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 6 tbsp butter
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tsp sea salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Heat Sugar: Place the sugar in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Stir continuously with a heat-resistant spatula or wooden spoon as the sugar melts. Continue stirring until the sugar turns a deep amber color, indicating it has caramelized properly.
  2. Add Butter: Carefully add the 6 tablespoons of butter to the melted sugar. Stir briskly to combine as the butter melts and incorporates evenly into the caramelized sugar.
  3. Incorporate Cream: Slowly pour in the 1/2 cup of heavy cream while stirring vigorously. Be cautious as the mixture will bubble vigorously upon adding the cream. Continue stirring until the sauce is smooth.
  4. Finish with Salt and Vanilla: Remove the saucepan from the heat. Stir in 1 teaspoon of sea salt and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract to enhance the flavor complexity of the caramel sauce.
  5. Cool and Store: Allow the sauce to cool slightly at room temperature before using. Transfer to a jar or container and refrigerate. Reheat gently before each use to restore pourability.

Notes

  • Be careful when adding the heavy cream because the hot caramel will bubble and can splatter.
  • Store the salted caramel sauce in the refrigerator in a sealed container and reheat gently before serving to maintain a smooth texture.
  • Use a heavy-bottomed saucepan to prevent burning the sugar.
  • If the caramel hardens after refrigeration, warm gently in the microwave or on the stovetop to soften.
