Description

Red Velvet Pancakes with Cream Cheese Frosting are fluffy, rich, and lightly chocolatey with that signature red velvet color. Finished with a smooth cream cheese frosting drizzle, these pancakes are perfect for Valentine’s Day breakfast, brunch, or a decadent weekend treat.

Ingredients

Red Velvet Pancakes

  • 1¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tbsp melted butter or oil
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp red food coloring

Cream Cheese Frosting

  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 23 tbsp milk
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
  2. Combine Wet Ingredients: In another bowl, mix the buttermilk, egg, melted butter, vanilla extract, and red food coloring until smooth.
  3. Make the Batter: Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined. It’s okay if there are some lumps; do not overmix to keep the pancakes fluffy.
  4. Heat the Skillet: Warm a nonstick skillet or griddle over medium heat and lightly grease it to prevent sticking.
  5. Cook Pancakes: Pour about ¼ cup of batter per pancake onto the skillet. Cook for 2–3 minutes until bubbles appear on the surface and the edges look set.
  6. Flip and Finish Cooking: Carefully flip the pancakes and cook for another 1–2 minutes until they are cooked through and fluffy.
  7. Prepare Frosting: In a small bowl, whisk together softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth and pourable.
  8. Serve: Drizzle the cream cheese frosting over the warm pancakes and serve immediately for the best flavor and texture.

Notes

  • Do not overmix batter—lumps are fine to ensure fluffy pancakes.
  • For heart-shaped pancakes, use a mold or free-pour shapes on the griddle.
  • Add chocolate chips to the batter for extra indulgence.
  • Thin the frosting with additional milk if a thinner drizzle is desired.
