Ingredients
Main Ingredients
- 1 cup milk (dairy or non-dairy)
- 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar or honey (adjust to taste)
- 1/8 teaspoon peppermint extract
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
- Pinch of salt
Optional Toppings
- Whipped cream
- Crushed peppermint candies
- Chocolate shavings
Instructions
- Combine Ingredients: Add milk, cocoa powder, sugar, and salt to a small saucepan.
- Heat Mixture: Heat over medium-low heat, whisking constantly, until hot and smooth. Do not allow to boil to prevent scorching and to maintain a smooth texture.
- Add Flavors: Remove from heat and stir in peppermint extract and vanilla extract if using.
- Serve: Pour the hot cocoa into a mug and add desired toppings such as whipped cream, crushed peppermint candies, or chocolate shavings. Serve warm.
Notes
- Peppermint extract is strong; start with a small amount and adjust carefully to avoid overpowering the drink.
- For extra richness, replace part of the milk with heavy cream.
- This recipe can also be made using dark chocolate chips melted into the milk for a more intense chocolate flavor.
