Description

Soft, sweet dessert bars with rich maple flavor and a smooth maple glaze. These chewy bars are perfect for fall desserts, snacks, or coffee-time treats.

Ingredients

Bars

  • 1/2 cup butter, melted
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup maple syrup
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Maple Glaze

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 12 tablespoons milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line an 8×8 inch baking pan with parchment paper to prevent sticking and make removal easier.
  2. Mix Wet Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the melted butter, brown sugar, and maple syrup until fully combined and smooth.
  3. Add Egg and Vanilla: Stir in the egg and vanilla extract, mixing well to incorporate into the wet mixture completely.
  4. Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt to ensure even distribution and remove lumps.
  5. Mix Batter: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, stirring gently until just combined to form a smooth batter without overmixing.
  6. Prepare for Baking: Spread the batter evenly into the prepared baking pan, smoothing the top for uniform thickness.
  7. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 20–25 minutes, or until the bars are set and lightly golden on top when tested with a toothpick.
  8. Cool Bars: Remove the pan from the oven and allow the bars to cool completely in the pan to room temperature before glazing.
  9. Prepare Glaze: Whisk together the powdered sugar, maple syrup, and 1 to 2 tablespoons of milk until the glaze is smooth and pourable.
  10. Glaze Bars: Spread the maple glaze evenly over the cooled bars to ensure a sweet, glossy finish.
  11. Set Glaze and Serve: Allow the glaze to set for several minutes before cutting the bars into 9 to 12 squares and serving.

Notes

  • Use pure maple syrup for the best and most authentic maple flavor.
  • For extra texture and flavor, add chopped pecans or walnuts into the batter before baking.
