Ingredients
Bars
- 1/2 cup butter, melted
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup maple syrup
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Maple Glaze
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons maple syrup
- 1–2 tablespoons milk
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line an 8×8 inch baking pan with parchment paper to prevent sticking and make removal easier.
- Mix Wet Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the melted butter, brown sugar, and maple syrup until fully combined and smooth.
- Add Egg and Vanilla: Stir in the egg and vanilla extract, mixing well to incorporate into the wet mixture completely.
- Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt to ensure even distribution and remove lumps.
- Mix Batter: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, stirring gently until just combined to form a smooth batter without overmixing.
- Prepare for Baking: Spread the batter evenly into the prepared baking pan, smoothing the top for uniform thickness.
- Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 20–25 minutes, or until the bars are set and lightly golden on top when tested with a toothpick.
- Cool Bars: Remove the pan from the oven and allow the bars to cool completely in the pan to room temperature before glazing.
- Prepare Glaze: Whisk together the powdered sugar, maple syrup, and 1 to 2 tablespoons of milk until the glaze is smooth and pourable.
- Glaze Bars: Spread the maple glaze evenly over the cooled bars to ensure a sweet, glossy finish.
- Set Glaze and Serve: Allow the glaze to set for several minutes before cutting the bars into 9 to 12 squares and serving.
Notes
- Use pure maple syrup for the best and most authentic maple flavor.
- For extra texture and flavor, add chopped pecans or walnuts into the batter before baking.
