Description
Sweet, savory, and spicy – this delicious pasta combines tender chicken, fettuccine pasta, fresh veggies, and a rich honey-soy sauce for a quick and easy meal.
Ingredients
For the pasta:
1 cup dry orzo pasta (or pasta of your choice)
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 lb chicken sausage (spicy or mild)
1 ½ cups broccoli florets
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 cups chicken broth
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
Salt and black pepper, to taste
¼ cup Parmesan cheese, grated
1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
-
Cook the Pasta:
Cook your orzo (or pasta of choice) according to package instructions. Drain and set aside. -
Brown the Chicken Sausage:
In a skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Season the chicken with salt and freshly ground black pepper. Add the chicken breasts to the skillet and cook for about 6-8 minutes until golden brown on both sides. Remove from the skillet and set aside. -
Sauté the Garlic:
In the same skillet, add the minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant. -
Cook the Vegetables:
Add the broccoli florets to the skillet, and sauté for about 2-3 minutes to slightly soften. -
Add the Sauce:
Stir in the honey, soy sauce, and a dash of black pepper. Let the sauce simmer for 2-3 minutes until slightly thickened. -
Combine with Pasta:
Slice the cooked chicken into strips and add it back into the skillet. Toss the cooked orzo or pasta into the skillet, ensuring it’s coated with the sweet and savory sauce. Add chili flakes for extra heat if desired. -
Serve and Garnish:
Serve the pasta hot, topped with fresh parsley and a sprinkle of Parmesan cheese for an extra burst of flavor.
Notes
- Add Extra Protein: Try adding cooked shrimp, turkey, or beans to boost the protein content.
- Spicy Variation: Add more chili flakes or a splash of sriracha to increase the heat.
- Vegetarian Version: Replace the chicken with tofu or tempeh for a plant-based version.
- Add More Veggies: Spinach, kale, or peas would add extra nutrition and texture to the dish.
