Description

Soft, slightly sweet sandwich bread made with oats and honey. Nutritious, tender, and perfect for toast or breakfast.

Ingredients

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup boiling water
  • ¼ cup honey
  • 2 tbsp butter

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 2¼ tsp yeast
  • 1½ tsp salt
  • 3 cups bread flour

Instructions

  1. Prepare Oats: Pour boiling water over the oats and let the mixture cool until it is warm to the touch, which helps activate the yeast properly.
  2. Add Yeast and Other Ingredients: Stir in the yeast, honey, butter, salt, and bread flour into the warm oat mixture until a dough forms.
  3. Knead Dough: Knead the dough for 8 to 10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic, which develops the gluten necessary for a good bread texture.
  4. First Rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise for about 1 hour or until it has doubled in size to ensure lightness.
  5. Shape Loaf: Punch down the risen dough and shape it into a loaf. Place it into a greased loaf pan.
  6. Second Rise: Allow the shaped dough to rise again for 30 to 40 minutes until it has nearly doubled in size.
  7. Bake Bread: Bake the loaf at 350°F (175°C) for 35 minutes until golden brown and fully cooked through.

Notes

  • Sprinkle oats on top of the loaf before baking for added texture and visual appeal.
  • For a richer flavor, replace the boiling water with milk.
