Description
Homemade BBQ Meatballs are tender and juicy meatballs made from ground beef, coated in a sweet and smoky barbecue sauce. These flavorful meatballs are perfect as an appetizer, party snack, or served alongside rice or mashed potatoes for a hearty meal.
Ingredients
Meatballs
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 egg
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
BBQ Sauce
- 1 cup barbecue sauce
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to prepare for baking the meatballs.
- Mix Meatball Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, milk, finely chopped onion, minced garlic, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently until all ingredients are evenly incorporated without overworking the mixture.
- Form Meatballs: Shape the mixture into small evenly sized meatballs and arrange them on a baking sheet, ensuring they are spaced evenly.
- Bake Meatballs: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake the meatballs for 20 minutes or until they are fully cooked through and browned on the outside.
- Prepare BBQ Sauce: While the meatballs bake, combine the barbecue sauce, honey, and Worcestershire sauce in a saucepan over medium heat.
- Simmer Meatballs in Sauce: Once meatballs are cooked, transfer them to the saucepan with the BBQ sauce. Simmer together for 5 minutes to coat the meatballs and develop deeper flavors.
- Serve: Serve the meatballs warm, either as an appetizer or alongside your favorite side dishes like rice or mashed potatoes.
Notes
- You can substitute ground beef with ground turkey for a lighter option.
- These meatballs are also great when cooked in a slow cooker — simply place them with the sauce and cook on low for 3-4 hours.
