Description

Homemade BBQ Meatballs are tender and juicy meatballs made from ground beef, coated in a sweet and smoky barbecue sauce. These flavorful meatballs are perfect as an appetizer, party snack, or served alongside rice or mashed potatoes for a hearty meal.

Ingredients

Meatballs

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

BBQ Sauce

  • 1 cup barbecue sauce
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to prepare for baking the meatballs.
  2. Mix Meatball Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, milk, finely chopped onion, minced garlic, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently until all ingredients are evenly incorporated without overworking the mixture.
  3. Form Meatballs: Shape the mixture into small evenly sized meatballs and arrange them on a baking sheet, ensuring they are spaced evenly.
  4. Bake Meatballs: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake the meatballs for 20 minutes or until they are fully cooked through and browned on the outside.
  5. Prepare BBQ Sauce: While the meatballs bake, combine the barbecue sauce, honey, and Worcestershire sauce in a saucepan over medium heat.
  6. Simmer Meatballs in Sauce: Once meatballs are cooked, transfer them to the saucepan with the BBQ sauce. Simmer together for 5 minutes to coat the meatballs and develop deeper flavors.
  7. Serve: Serve the meatballs warm, either as an appetizer or alongside your favorite side dishes like rice or mashed potatoes.

Notes

  • You can substitute ground beef with ground turkey for a lighter option.
  • These meatballs are also great when cooked in a slow cooker — simply place them with the sauce and cook on low for 3-4 hours.
