Ingredients
Pancakes
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 2 tsp baking powder
- ¼ tsp salt
- 1 cup milk
- 1 large egg
- 2 tbsp melted butter or oil
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Toppings
- Fresh strawberries, sliced
- Blueberries
- Raspberries
- Maple syrup or powdered sugar
- Whipped cream (optional)
Instructions
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
- Combine Wet Ingredients: In another bowl, beat together the milk, large egg, melted butter or oil, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Create Batter: Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined; small lumps are okay to prevent tough pancakes.
- Heat Skillet: Preheat a nonstick skillet or griddle over medium heat and lightly grease it to prevent sticking and ensure even cooking.
- Form Heart Shapes: Pour pancake batter into a heart-shaped mold placed on the skillet, or freehand pour heart shapes carefully if not using a mold.
- Cook Pancakes: Cook until bubbles form on the surface of the pancakes, about 2–3 minutes, indicating the underside is golden and set.
- Flip and Finish: Carefully flip the pancakes and cook for another 1–2 minutes until the other side is golden and the pancakes are cooked through.
- Repeat: Continue cooking the remaining batter in batches, keeping cooked pancakes warm in a low oven if desired.
- Serve: Serve the warm heart-shaped pancakes topped generously with fresh strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, maple syrup or powdered sugar, and whipped cream if using.
Notes
- Silicone heart molds create the cleanest and most defined heart shapes for pancakes.
- Do not overmix the batter; a few small lumps are normal and help keep pancakes fluffy.
- Keep cooked pancakes warm in a low oven (about 200°F) while finishing the remaining batter to serve all pancakes warm.
- For a festive Valentine’s Day touch, add a few drops of pink food coloring to the batter before cooking.
