Description
Gyeran Mari is a soft, fluffy Korean rolled omelette made by seasoning eggs with milk and green onions, then cooking and rolling them gently in a skillet. It’s a popular and versatile Korean breakfast staple, also enjoyed as a lunchbox item or side dish.
Ingredients
Egg Mixture
- 4 large eggs
- 2 tablespoons milk or water
- 2 tablespoons green onions, finely chopped
- Salt, to taste
For Cooking
- Oil, for cooking
Instructions
- Prepare the egg mixture: In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk (or water), finely chopped green onions, and salt until the mixture is well combined and slightly frothy.
- Heat the pan: Place a nonstick skillet over low heat and lightly oil the surface to prevent sticking.
- Cook a thin egg layer: Pour a thin layer of the egg mixture into the pan, tilting to spread evenly.
- Roll the egg: When the egg is mostly set but still slightly soft on top, carefully roll it toward one side of the pan using a spatula.
- Add more egg and continue rolling: Push the rolled egg back to the starting position in the pan, pour more egg mixture into the empty space, and roll the cooked egg over the new layer. Repeat this process to build layers.
- Finish cooking: Cook the rolled omelette until it is fully set and slightly golden on all sides, maintaining low heat to ensure a tender texture.
- Slice and serve: Remove from the pan, let it cool slightly, slice into bite-sized pieces, and serve warm as a breakfast item or side dish.
Notes
- Use low heat throughout cooking to achieve a soft, fluffy texture.
- For added flavor and texture, finely chopped carrots or diced ham can be included in the egg mixture.
- Make sure to oil the pan lightly to prevent sticking and assist rolling.
- Serve freshly sliced to enjoy the best flavor and texture.
