Ingredients
For the Margarita
- 1 ripe mango, peeled and sliced
- 2 oz tequila (blanco recommended)
- 1 oz fresh lime juice
- ¾ oz agave syrup (adjust to taste)
- 4–6 fresh basil leaves
- Ice
For Garnish and Rim
- Tajín or salt (optional, for rim)
- Lime wheel, for garnish
- Basil sprig, for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat the Grill: Preheat your grill or grill pan to medium-high heat to prepare for charring the mango slices.
- Grill Mango: Place the mango slices on the hot grill and cook for 2–3 minutes per side until they develop a light char. Remove and allow to cool slightly.
- Muddle Mango and Basil: In a cocktail shaker, add the grilled mango slices and fresh basil leaves. Muddle them together gently until the mixture is smooth and fragrant.
- Add Liquids: Pour in the tequila, fresh lime juice, and agave syrup into the shaker with the muddled ingredients.
- Shake with Ice: Fill the shaker with ice and shake vigorously for 15–20 seconds to chill and combine all flavors thoroughly.
- Prepare Glass Rim: Rub a lime wedge around the rim of a rocks glass, then dip it into Tajín or salt if desired to coat the rim.
- Strain and Serve: Strain the margarita mixture into the prepared glass filled with fresh ice.
- Garnish and Enjoy: Garnish with a lime wheel and a basil sprig for a fresh aroma and attractive presentation. Serve immediately.
Notes
- Grilling intensifies the mango’s natural sweetness, enhancing the cocktail’s flavor.
- If grilling isn’t available, substitute with frozen mango (fully thawed) for convenience.
- For an extra smoky flavor, add a dash of mezcal along with the tequila.
- To make a frozen margarita, blend the ingredients with ice instead of shaking.
