Description

Smoky-sweet grilled mango pairs beautifully with fresh basil and bright lime in this Grilled Mango Basil Margarita. A bold and refreshing twist on the classic margarita, perfect for summer cookouts, taco nights, and outdoor entertaining.

Ingredients

For the Margarita

  • 1 ripe mango, peeled and sliced
  • 2 oz tequila (blanco recommended)
  • 1 oz fresh lime juice
  • ¾ oz agave syrup (adjust to taste)
  • 46 fresh basil leaves
  • Ice

For Garnish and Rim

  • Tajín or salt (optional, for rim)
  • Lime wheel, for garnish
  • Basil sprig, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Grill: Preheat your grill or grill pan to medium-high heat to prepare for charring the mango slices.
  2. Grill Mango: Place the mango slices on the hot grill and cook for 2–3 minutes per side until they develop a light char. Remove and allow to cool slightly.
  3. Muddle Mango and Basil: In a cocktail shaker, add the grilled mango slices and fresh basil leaves. Muddle them together gently until the mixture is smooth and fragrant.
  4. Add Liquids: Pour in the tequila, fresh lime juice, and agave syrup into the shaker with the muddled ingredients.
  5. Shake with Ice: Fill the shaker with ice and shake vigorously for 15–20 seconds to chill and combine all flavors thoroughly.
  6. Prepare Glass Rim: Rub a lime wedge around the rim of a rocks glass, then dip it into Tajín or salt if desired to coat the rim.
  7. Strain and Serve: Strain the margarita mixture into the prepared glass filled with fresh ice.
  8. Garnish and Enjoy: Garnish with a lime wheel and a basil sprig for a fresh aroma and attractive presentation. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • Grilling intensifies the mango’s natural sweetness, enhancing the cocktail’s flavor.
  • If grilling isn’t available, substitute with frozen mango (fully thawed) for convenience.
  • For an extra smoky flavor, add a dash of mezcal along with the tequila.
  • To make a frozen margarita, blend the ingredients with ice instead of shaking.
