Description

Filet Mignon with Garlic Butter is a restaurant-quality steak recipe made easily at home. Tender beef filets are pan-seared to perfection and finished with rich garlic herb butter for an elegant yet simple dinner perfect for date nights or special occasions.

Ingredients

Steaks

  • 4 filet mignon steaks (68 oz each)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp olive oil

Garlic Butter

  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 tsp fresh thyme or rosemary (optional)
  • ½ tsp salt

Instructions

  1. Prep Steaks: Remove steaks from refrigerator 30 minutes before cooking to allow them to reach room temperature for even cooking.
  2. Season: Pat steaks dry with paper towels and season both sides evenly with salt and black pepper.
  3. Heat Skillet: Heat a heavy skillet, preferably cast iron, over medium-high heat until hot.
  4. Add Oil: Pour in olive oil and heat until it begins to shimmer, indicating it’s hot enough for searing.
  5. Sear Steaks: Place steaks in skillet and sear for 3 to 4 minutes on each side for medium-rare doneness.
  6. Add Garlic Butter: Reduce heat to medium-low, add the prepared garlic butter to the pan, and continuously spoon the melted butter over the steaks to enhance flavor and moisture.
  7. Finish Cooking: Continue cooking steaks in the garlic butter for an additional 1–2 minutes until desired doneness is reached.
  8. Rest Steaks: Remove steaks from the skillet and let them rest for 5 minutes to allow juices to redistribute and ensure tenderness.
  9. Serve: Serve the filet mignon steaks topped with the remaining garlic butter for an indulgent finish.

Notes

  • Use a meat thermometer to check doneness accurately: Rare at 125°F, Medium-Rare at 135°F, Medium at 145°F.
  • Let steaks rest before slicing to retain juices and ensure maximum tenderness.
  • Garlic butter can be made ahead of time and refrigerated for convenience.
  • This dish pairs wonderfully with mashed potatoes or roasted vegetables for a complete meal.
