Description
Easy Turkey Meatloaf is a lighter twist on the classic comfort food. Made with lean ground turkey, simple seasonings, and a flavorful glaze, this meatloaf is moist, tender, and perfect for a wholesome family dinner.
Ingredients
Meatloaf:
- 1 lb ground turkey
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 egg
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons ketchup
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Glaze:
- 3 tablespoons ketchup
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon mustard
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 375°F (190°C) to ensure it’s ready by the time your meatloaf mixture is prepared.
- Mix ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the ground turkey, breadcrumbs, egg, milk, finely chopped onion, minced garlic, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper. Stir gently until everything is well incorporated, being careful not to overmix to keep the meatloaf tender.
- Shape the meatloaf: Form the mixture into a loaf shape and place it into a greased baking dish or loaf pan, evenly distributing the mixture for uniform cooking.
- Prepare the glaze: In a small bowl, mix together ketchup, brown sugar, and mustard until smooth and well combined.
- Apply the glaze: Evenly spread the glaze over the top of the meatloaf to add flavor and moisture during baking.
- Bake: Place the meatloaf in the preheated oven and bake for 45 to 50 minutes, or until fully cooked through with an internal temperature reaching 165°F (74°C).
- Rest and serve: Remove the meatloaf from the oven and let it rest for 5 to 10 minutes. This allows the juices to redistribute for a moist and flavorful slice. Then slice and serve.
Notes
- Ground chicken can be substituted for turkey for a different flavor.
- Add grated carrots or zucchini to the mixture to keep the meatloaf extra moist and add nutrition.
- Do not overmix the meatloaf mixture to prevent a dense texture.
- Use a meat thermometer to ensure the meatloaf is fully cooked without drying it out.
