Ingredients
Crust
- 1 unbaked pie crust
Filling
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup milk or half-and-half
- 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, Swiss, or your preference)
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
Optional Add-ins
- ½ cup chopped spinach
- ½ cup sliced mushrooms
- ½ cup diced ham
- ½ cup cooked bacon pieces
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to ensure it’s fully hot before baking the quiche for an even cooking process.
- Prepare Crust: Place the unbaked pie crust into a 9-inch pie dish, pressing it gently to fit and make sure the edges are even.
- Add Cheese and Fillings: Sprinkle the shredded cheese evenly over the bottom of the crust. Then distribute any optional fillings like spinach, mushrooms, ham, or bacon evenly over the cheese layer for balanced flavor in every slice.
- Mix Egg Custard: In a medium bowl, whisk together the 4 large eggs, 1 cup of milk or half-and-half, salt, and black pepper until fully combined and slightly frothy.
- Pour Egg Mixture: Carefully pour the egg mixture over the cheese and fillings inside the pie crust, letting it settle evenly without disturbing the layers.
- Bake the Quiche: Place the pie dish on the middle rack of the preheated oven and bake for 40 to 45 minutes. The quiche is done when the center is set and no longer jiggly, with a lightly golden top.
- Cool and Serve: Remove the quiche from the oven and allow it to cool slightly, about 10 minutes, which helps to firm it up for cleaner slices. Then cut into 6 slices and serve warm.
Notes
- Allowing the quiche to rest for 10 minutes after baking helps achieve clean, neat slices.
- The quiche freezes well after baking, making it a great make-ahead option for meal prep.
- You can customize the fillings to your preference, adding vegetables or meats of your choice.
- Use half-and-half for a richer custard or milk for a lighter version.
