Description

These crispy panko onion rings are coated in a seasoned flour mixture and dipped in buttermilk before frying to golden perfection. The panko crumbs add extra crunch for a delicious homemade treat.

Ingredients

2 large onions, sliced into 1/4-inch rings

1 cup all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon paprika

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1 cup buttermilk

2 cups panko breadcrumbs

Vegetable oil, for frying

Instructions

  1. Heat vegetable oil to 350°F in a deep fryer or large pot.

  2. Mix flour, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper in a bowl.

  3. Dip onion rings in buttermilk, coat with flour mixture, dip again in buttermilk, then dredge in panko breadcrumbs.

  4. Fry onion rings in batches for 2-3 minutes until golden and crispy. Drain on paper towels.

  5. Serve warm with dipping sauce.

Notes

  • Substitute buttermilk with milk and vinegar if needed.
  • Bake at 425°F for 15-20 minutes as a healthier alternative, though less crispy.
  • Reheat leftovers in air fryer or oven to maintain crunch.
