Description

These Air Fryer Churro Bites are a healthier, easier version of the classic treat, offering a crispy, golden exterior and soft, tender interior. Coated in cinnamon sugar, these bite-sized churros are the perfect snack or dessert for any occasion. With minimal prep time and just 10-12 minutes of cook time, you can enjoy this sweet treat without the guilt of deep frying!

Ingredients

For the Dough:

1 cup plain flour

1 cup water

1/3 cup + 1 tablespoon unsalted butter

1 teaspoon salt

2 tablespoons sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 large egg

For the Coating:

1 cup white sugar

1 tablespoon cinnamon powder

Instructions

  1. Make the Dough:
Combine 1 cup of water, 1/3 cup + 1 tablespoon butter, 1 teaspoon salt, and 2 tablespoons sugar in a medium saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Stir occasionally to melt the butter and dissolve the sugar. Once it boils, reduce the heat to low, add flour, and stir until a smooth dough forms. Remove from heat and cool for 4-5 minutes.

  2. Mix the Dough:
Add the egg and vanilla extract to the cooled dough. Mix with a hand mixer or stand mixer until smooth. The dough should be thick and sticky but pliable.

  3. Pipe the Churros:
Transfer the dough into a piping bag fitted with a large star tip. Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C). Lightly spray the air fryer basket with nonstick spray. Pipe bite-sized churros (about 2 inches long) into the air fryer basket.

  4. Air Fry the Churros:
Lightly brush churros with melted butter. Cook in the air fryer for 10-12 minutes until golden and crispy. If needed, cook in batches, ensuring there’s space between each churro.

  5. Coat the Churros:
Mix 1 cup sugar and 1 tablespoon cinnamon in a shallow bowl. Immediately toss the cooked churros in the cinnamon sugar mixture.

  6. Serve and Enjoy:
Serve warm, with optional dipping sauces like chocolate syrup, Nutella, or caramel.

Notes

  • Butter Brushing: Brushing the churros with melted butter before air frying ensures they turn golden brown and crispy.
  • Custom Coatings: Feel free to experiment with cocoa powder or brown sugar in the coating for a different flavor profile.
  • Storage: Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days. Reheat in the air fryer for 2-3 minutes for freshness.
