Description

Enjoy a rich and creamy Coconut Chai Tea crafted with warming spices, robust black tea, and smooth coconut milk. This aromatic and comforting beverage is perfect for cozy mornings or relaxing evenings, offering a delightful dairy-free twist on a classic chai latte.

Ingredients

Tea Base

  • 1 cup water
  • 1 black tea bag or 1 tsp loose leaf black tea

Spices

  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/8 tsp ground cardamom
  • Pinch ground cloves or nutmeg

Dairy-Free Milk & Sweetener

  • 1/2 cup coconut milk (canned or carton, full-fat recommended for richer texture)
  • 12 tsp sweetener of choice (optional)
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract (optional)

Instructions

  1. Simmer Spices: In a small saucepan, combine the water and all the spices (cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, and cloves or nutmeg). Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer over medium heat and let it simmer for 3–4 minutes to infuse the flavors.
  2. Steep Tea: Add the black tea bag or loose leaf tea to the simmering spiced water. Allow it to steep for 3–5 minutes depending on your preferred tea strength.
  3. Combine Coconut Milk and Sweetener: Remove the tea bag or strain out loose leaf tea. Stir in the coconut milk and your choice of sweetener, adjusting sweetness to taste.
  4. Warm the Tea: Gently heat the mixture, making sure it warms through but does not reach a boil to preserve the delicate flavors and prevent coconut milk separation.
  5. Add Vanilla Extract: Stir in vanilla extract if using to add a sweet, aromatic note to the chai.
  6. Serve: Pour the warm coconut chai tea into a mug and enjoy immediately. For a chilled version, refrigerate and serve over ice. For a café-style experience, blend before serving to create a foam.

Notes

  • Use full-fat canned coconut milk for a richer, creamier texture.
  • Can be served iced by refrigerating and pouring over ice cubes.
  • For café-style foam, blend the tea before serving.
