Description
Soft, cinnamon-spiced apple bars topped with a light glaze, perfect for fall baking or everyday dessert.
Ingredients
Dry Ingredients
- 2 cups flour
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 cup oil or melted butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Fruit
- 2 cups apples, peeled and finely chopped
Glaze (Optional)
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2–3 tablespoons milk
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking pan to prevent sticking.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt until well combined to ensure even distribution of leavening and spices.
- Add Wet Ingredients and Apples: Add eggs, oil or melted butter, and vanilla extract to the dry mixture. Stir in the finely chopped peeled apples and mix until all ingredients are evenly combined into a batter.
- Spread Batter: Pour and spread the batter evenly into the prepared 9×13 inch pan, smoothing the surface for uniform baking.
- Bake: Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the bars are set and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Prepare Glaze: While the bars bake, whisk together powdered sugar and 2 to 3 tablespoons of milk until smooth and pourable.
- Glaze and Cool: Once baked, remove the bars from the oven and allow them to cool completely in the pan. Drizzle the prepared glaze evenly over the cooled bars before cutting and serving.
Notes
- Use tart apples like Granny Smith for the best flavor and balance of sweetness.
- You may substitute oil with melted butter for a richer taste.
- Make sure bars are completely cool before glazing to prevent the glaze from melting.
- For a dairy-free option, use oil and plant-based milk for glaze.
