Description

Beef Chili With Beans is a hearty, comforting American main course dish made with seasoned ground beef, kidney and pinto beans, crushed tomatoes, and a blend of warm spices simmered together to develop deep, rich flavors. Perfect for game days, family dinners, or cozy nights at home, this chili is both satisfying and flavorful.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (15 oz) kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 can (15 oz) pinto beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 cup beef broth

Spices & Seasonings

  • 2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Heat the oil: Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large pot over medium heat to prepare for sautéing the beef and vegetables.
  2. Cook ground beef: Add 1 pound of ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart as it cooks. Drain any excess fat if necessary to keep the chili from being greasy.
  3. Sauté onion: Add the diced small onion and cook for 3 to 4 minutes until softened and translucent, which enhances the flavor base.
  4. Add garlic and spices: Stir in the minced garlic, chili powder, ground cumin, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant to release the spices’ aromas.
  5. Add beans and liquids: Pour in the drained kidney beans, pinto beans, crushed tomatoes, and beef broth. Stir to combine all ingredients well.
  6. Simmer chili: Bring the mixture to a simmer, then reduce the heat to low and cook uncovered for 30 to 40 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking and to allow flavors to meld.
  7. Adjust and serve: Taste the chili and adjust seasoning as needed. Serve the chili hot for a comforting meal.

Notes

  • Simmer the chili longer if you prefer a deeper, more developed flavor.
  • Adjust the spice level by adding cayenne pepper or fresh jalapeños for extra heat.
  • This chili freezes well and can be stored in the freezer for up to 3 months.
