Description

Crispy and spicy, these battered jalapeño spears are the ultimate appetizer or party snack. Coated in a flavorful batter and fried to golden perfection, they’re bold, crunchy, and totally addictive!

Ingredients

1 cup (125 g) all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon kosher salt

1 teaspoon black pepper

1 teaspoon chili powder

1 teaspoon garlic powder

2 large eggs

1 pint vegetable oil (for frying)

2 cups jalapeño peppers, sliced into spears (56 large jalapeños)

Kosher salt, optional (for seasoning after frying)

Instructions

  1. Cut jalapeños into spears: Remove stems, slice in half lengthwise, remove seeds if desired, then cut into thin sticks.

  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, salt, pepper, chili powder, garlic powder, eggs, until smooth. Batter should be slightly thinner than pancake batter.

  3. Heat oil in a deep fryer or skillet to 365°F (185°C).

  4. Dip jalapeño spears in batter until fully coated.

  5. Carefully place in hot oil. Fry until golden brown, crispy, and floating — about 2–4 minutes.

  6. Remove and drain on paper towels. Sprinkle with extra kosher salt if desired. Serve hot with dipping sauce.

Notes

  • Remove jalapeño seeds to reduce heat.
  • Best enjoyed fresh and crispy.
  • Try with ranch or garlic aioli for dipping.
