Ingredients
Bars
- 2 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 2 eggs
- 3 ripe bananas, mashed
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Cream Cheese Frosting
- 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
- 1/4 cup butter, softened
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking pan to prevent sticking.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt to ensure even distribution.
- Cream Wet Ingredients: In a large bowl, beat the softened butter with sugar until creamy and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Then, stir in the mashed ripe bananas and vanilla extract.
- Combine Wet and Dry: Gradually stir the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined, being careful not to overmix to maintain a tender texture.
- Bake: Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake in the preheated oven for 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow the bars to cool completely in the pan.
- Prepare Frosting: While the bars cool, beat together softened cream cheese and butter until smooth. Gradually add powdered sugar and vanilla extract and continue beating until creamy and spreadable.
- Frost the Bars: Spread the cream cheese frosting evenly over the cooled banana bars. For best results, chill the frosted bars in the refrigerator before slicing.
Notes
- Chill the frosted banana bars before slicing to achieve clean edges and prevent the frosting from smearing.
- Use very ripe bananas for the best flavor and sweetness.
- Ensure the bars are completely cool before frosting to avoid melting the cream cheese frosting.
- Store leftover bars in the refrigerator to keep the frosting fresh.
