Description

Soft and chewy applesauce oatmeal cookies made with wholesome ingredients, lightly sweetened and perfect for a healthy snack or breakfast.


Ingredients

2 cups rolled oats

1 cup whole wheat flour

1 tsp baking soda

1/2 tsp fine sea salt

1½ tsp ground cinnamon

1 cup unsweetened applesauce

1 large egg or flax egg (1 tbsp ground flax + 3 tbsp water)

1 tsp pure vanilla extract

12 tbsp honey or maple syrup (optional)

Up to ½ cup mix-ins (optional): walnuts, flax seeds, dried cranberries, chocolate chunks


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 175 °C (350 °F). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.

  2. Whisk dry ingredients in a large bowl.

  3. Whisk wet ingredients in a separate bowl.

  4. Combine wet and dry ingredients gently, fold in mix-ins if using.

  5. Scoop dough (about 2 tbsp per cookie) onto baking sheets spaced 5 cm apart.

  6. Bake for 12–14 minutes until edges are golden and centers are soft.

  7. Cool on baking sheet 5 minutes, then transfer to wire rack.

Notes

  • Add 1 teaspoon of nutmeg or ginger for a warm spice twist.
  • Substitute the honey/maple syrup with coconut sugar for a different sweet note.
  • Mix in shredded coconut or pumpkin seeds for added texture.
